Assa Abloy DSR Version Upgrade Guide

This guide walks you through upgrading your Door Service Router (DSR) to a newer version.

Written by Ankita Chakraborty

The upgrade preserves your existing database and configuration. As long as the DSR keeps its current IP address and settings, you will not need to reconfigure your locks.

Please read the entire guide before you begin. Set aside a maintenance window, since the DSR and its related services will be temporarily unavailable during the upgrade.

Before You Begin

Make sure you have the following ready:

  • Login credentials for both the database and the DSR. You will need these during the upgrade.

  • The DSR installer for the version you are upgrading to. Download it from the official download page provided by your Genea contact and save it to the machine (virtual machine) that runs the DSR.

  • Your existing database password from the original installation. You will be prompted for it during the upgrade.

Stop the Genea Gateway services

Before starting the installer, stop the following two services on the Gateway machine:

  • Genea Cloud-to-Gateway Service

  • Genea Gateway-to-Cloud Service

Upgrade Steps

1. Download the required DSR version

Go to the official download page and locate the DSR version you want to install. Save the installer to the Gateway machine.

2. Start the upgrade

Right-click the downloaded .exe file and choose Run as administrator to launch the installer.

A dialog box will appear showing the current version (for example, 8.0.18.0) and the expected version you are upgrading to (for example, 8.0.31.0).

3. Verify the versions and proceed

Carefully confirm that the current and expected versions shown are correct. If they are, click Yes to continue with the installation.

4. Database configuration

During installation you will reach the Database Configuration step.

Important: Do not select the "Create New Database" checkbox. Leaving it unchecked ensures the upgrade uses your existing database and keeps all of your current data.

5. Complete the installation

From here, the process is similar to the original DSR installation.

  • Database password prompt: When asked, provide your database password. We recommend using the same password that was set during the initial installation.

  • If you are changing the database password: Be sure to update it in the Genea database script as well, so the two stay consistent.

The installer will then upgrade your DSR to the new version.

6. Restart the Gateway

Once the upgrade finishes, restart the Gateway machine (the virtual machine on which the DSR was upgraded).

7. Update the database backup script

Update your database backup script to reflect the new PostgreSQL version and its corresponding path changes.

8. Start the Genea service

After the backup script has been updated, start the Genea service to apply all changes.

After the Upgrade

Your DSR is now running the new version. Because the IP address and settings were preserved, your locks should continue operating without any reconfiguration. Confirm that the Genea services are running and that your system is communicating normally.

If you run into any issues during or after the upgrade, contact Genea support for assistance.
