The Shooter Detection System (SDS) integration with Genea provides real-time monitoring of gunshot detection sensors throughout your facility. This integration enables security teams to respond quickly to potential threats with immediate alerts, visual sensor mapping, and comprehensive event logging.

Key Features

Real-time sensor monitoring - View the status of all SDS sensors in your facility

Floor plan mapping - Visualize sensor locations on your facility floor plans

Automatic alarm generation - Instant alerts when gunshots are detected

Push notifications - Receive alerts on both web browsers and mobile devices

Comprehensive event logging - Review and analyze all sensor events and maintenance alerts

Understanding Event Types

The SDS integration monitors three main categories of events:

1. Gunshot Detection Events

When a sensor detects a gunshot, the system automatically:

• Creates a critical alarm event

• Highlights the affected location on the floor plan

• Displays linked camera feeds for the sensor

• Sends immediate push notifications to authorized personnel

• Records the event in the event log

2. Sensor Maintenance Events

Maintenance events alert you to sensor health issues. The system monitors for:

Offline sensors - Sensor is not communicating with the system

Degraded sensors - Sensor may not meet specifications due to environmental or internal issues

Disabled sensors - Sensor has been manually disabled by an administrator

Tamper alerts - Physical tampering detected

Tester mode - Sensor is in testing configuration

Note: Maintenance events generate both an alarm and an event log entry. The system tracks when sensor states change, such as when an offline sensor comes back online.

3. Gateway Status Events

The SDS Gateway is the central hub for all sensor communications. The system monitors gateway connectivity:

• Gateway online/offline state changes are logged

• An alarm is generated if the gateway goes offline

Viewing Sensor Status

Accessing the Dashboard

To view your SDS sensors:

• Navigate to the Security section in your Genea dashboard

• Select Shooter Detection System

• View real-time sensor status and locations

Understanding Sensor Status Indicators

Status

Description

Online

Sensor is functioning normally and communicating with the system

Offline

Sensor is not communicating with the system and requires attention

Degraded

Sensor is communicating but may not meet full specifications

Disabled

Sensor has been manually disabled by an administrator

Floor Plan Mapping

The floor plan view provides a visual representation of your facility with sensor locations marked. When viewing the floor plan:

• Sensor icons indicate the location of each SDS sensor

• Icon colors correspond to sensor status (green = online, red = offline, yellow = degraded)

• Click a sensor icon to view detailed information

• During a gunshot event, the affected location is highlighted automatically

Receiving Notifications

Browser Notifications

To receive browser push notifications:

• Ensure your browser allows notifications from Genea

• Navigate to your profile settings

• Enable SDS notifications in the notification preferences

• You will receive instant alerts for gunshot detections and critical maintenance events

Mobile Notifications

To receive mobile push notifications:

• Install the Genea mobile app on your device

• Enable push notifications when prompted

• Configure your notification preferences in the app settings

• You will receive alerts even when away from your workstation

Viewing and Managing Alarms

Alarm Dashboard

When an alarm is triggered, you can view it in the Alarms section:

• Navigate to Security > Alarms

• View active alarms at the top of the list

• Click an alarm to see full details including sensor location, time, and type

• For gunshot events, view associated camera feeds if cameras are linked

Alarm Categories

Alarms are automatically categorized based on severity:

Critical - Gunshot detection events (requires immediate response)

Warning - Sensor offline or degraded status

Maintenance - Sensor tamper alerts or configuration changes

Event Logs

The event log provides a comprehensive history of all SDS activity:

• Navigate to Security > Event Logs > SDS Events

• Filter events by date range, sensor, or event type

• Export event logs for compliance or analysis purposes

• Review historical trends to identify patterns or recurring issues

Troubleshooting

Sensor Shows Offline

If a sensor appears offline:

• Check network connectivity for the sensor

• Verify power supply to the sensor

• Confirm the sensor has not been manually disabled

• Contact your system administrator if the issue persists

Not Receiving Notifications

If you're not receiving notifications:

• Verify browser notification permissions are enabled

• Check your notification preferences in Genea settings

• For mobile, ensure push notifications are enabled in device settings

• Ensure your user role has permission to receive SDS alerts

Sensor Shows Degraded

A degraded sensor may have environmental or configuration issues:

• Check the event log for specific error details

• Common causes include temperature extremes, obstructions, or network quality

• Schedule maintenance to resolve the underlying issue
