Access Exemptions allow certain users or groups to retain door access privileges during restricted conditions, including Emergency Plans, Door Lockdown, and Privacy Mode. This feature ensures that critical personnel—such as fire drill staff, medical personnel, or VIPs—can continue to move freely and perform their duties even when general access is restricted.

By configuring exemptions, organizations can maintain safety and operational efficiency while still enforcing security policies for all other users. Proper setup ensures that only authorized personnel are exempted, with access rights and schedules correctly applied to the relevant doors under these restricted modes.

Follow the steps below to configure exemptions for access groups or individual users when Emergency Plans, Lockdown, or Privacy Mode is active:

1) Navigate to Access Control > Access Policies > Access Exemptions in your location or global overview.

2) Proceed to add exemptions by selecting either Access Groups or Users.
Please note that exemptions follow an OR logic — meaning if a user is part of an exempted access group or is individually added as an exempted user, their credential will continue to function even when Lockdown, Active Emergency Plan, or Privacy Mode is enabled.

Similarly, when removing a user from an exemption, ensure that:

  • The user is removed from the Exempted Users list, and

  • The user is not part of any exempted access group,
otherwise, the exemption will still apply.

Also note that the exemption applies only to users who are members of the selected access group.

If a user has the selected access group assigned as an additional access, the exemption will not be applied.

Visibility of Extended Mode for Doors

When Privacy Mode or any other Extended Mode is enabled, its status will be visible in the Door Grid under the Extended Mode column.

These values will also be included in Door Export CSV files as well as in Door Reports.

Configuring Alerts for Privacy Mode

You can also configure alerts via email, Slack, MS Teams, or WebEx to notify you whenever Privacy Mode is enabled or disabled.

To receive email alerts, go to Alerts, scroll to the Locks section, and configure the email settings.

For other communication channels, go to Integrations from the Global Overview, scroll to the Communications section, select your preferred channel, and configure the alert under the Locks category.

See the linked articles for more information on setting up Slack, MS Teams, or WebEx alerts.
