Written by Anmol Gupta

What This Integration Enables

Genea’s integration with Verkada allows customers to:

  • Connect their Verkada organization to Genea using an API Key

  • Sync Verkada cameras into Genea

  • View live and recorded video directly inside Genea

  • Map Verkada cameras to Genea doors, elevator doors, monitor points, control points, and sensors

  • Automatically review camera footage around access events

  • View video from multiple areas in Genea:

    • Integrations Page

    • Camera Wall

    • Floor Plans

    • Access Logs

    • Alarms

    • Control Center

This integration helps security teams verify incidents faster and unify access + video within a single platform.

Prerequisites

Before setting up this integration, ensure:

  • You have an active Verkada organization and camera setup

  • You can generate an API Key in Verkada dashboard

  • Cameras are already configured in Verkada

  • Cameras are online in Verkada

  • You have Admin access in Genea

Setting Up the Verkada Integration

Creating API Key in Verkada Portal

To connect Verkada to Genea, you must create a Verkada API Key.

Step 1 - Log in to Verkada Command

  • Log in to your Verkada Command portal as an Organization Admin.

Step 2 - Navigate to API Settings

  • Go to Admin → Verkada API

  • Then go to "API and Integration" section and select API Keys

Step 3 - Configure Permissions

  • Click on Add "+API Key" button

  • Name the API Key (e.g., "Genea_Integration")

  • Select appropriate permissions:

    • Endpoint - Live/Historical Access

      • Streaming - Live/Historical

      • Select all the Verkada Location you want to give access

    • Click on Add Endpoint

    • Endpoint - Camera Read Access

      • Camera

      • Read-Only

    • Set expiration (recommended: select date expiration long enough to avoid frequent reconfiguration)

⚠️ If the API Key only has live streaming access and not playback permissions, recorded video playback inside Genea will fail.

And If Camera Readd permission is missing then Cameras will not appear during sync.

Step 4 - Generate and Save

  • Click Generate Key

  • Copy the API Key immediately (it will only be shown once)

  • Store it securely

  • Also Copy the Organization Id from the API Integration Section

Installing Verkada Integration in Genea

Step 1 - Navigate to Integrations

  1. Log in to your Genea Global Overview page.

  2. Go to Integrations in the left navigation.

  3. Scroll to Video Management Systems.

  4. Click Install under Verkada.

Step 2 - Enter Verkada Details

Enter the following:

  • API Key (Created in the Verkada portal from the above steps)

  • Organization ID (Copied from the Verkada portal from the above steps)

  • Region (US, EU, Australia, GovCloud)

⚠️ Important:

  • Organization ID must match your Verkada organization.

  • Region must match the region where your Verkada org was created.

  • API Key must not be expired.

Click Install.

If successful, you will see a confirmation message.

Step 3 - Verkada Integration Page

  1. Once Installed you wil be able to:

    1. Uninstall by clicking Uninstall utton in top right

    2. Change Connection Configuration by clicking on edit

    3. Set a Camera Link Offset

This setting enables you to customize the offset time for the camera link in order to sync the access event and camera times.

The internal clock of cameras may drift from the true time and vary from room to room. And access events being critical, it is necessary that we display the exact video clips against a particular access event in the activity log. To ensure the correct video clips are displayed along with access events, this setting can be used.

You may set your system to capture video of an event up to 10 seconds before, or up to 10 seconds after the camera time stamp. To set, move the slider next to the 'Camera Link Offset (seconds)' to the desired number of seconds.

Setting Up Devices & Cameras

Step 1 - Sync Cameras

  • Click Sync Cameras

  • Genea will fetch all cameras from your Verkada organization

Camera table displays:

  • Camera Name

  • Site

  • Status (Online/Offline)

  • Retention Days

  • Mapping Status

You may filter by:

  • Location: Based on Mapping a the camera to a device which belongs to that location. Eg: All the cameras mapped to "DoorA" which is part of "LocationA" will be shown when we filter with "LocationA".

  • Device Type: All cameras mapped to devices selected will be filtered

  • Status: You can toggle On/Off to hide/unhide the camera from the list, further you can filter on status of hide/visible state.

Setp 2 - Viewing Stream

On Clicking the Camera name hyperlink video player will open up, where you can:

Mapping Genea Devices

To map your cameras to your devices, click the 'Map' button against the Verkada Camera

  • Note: Map your cameras to your Genea devices(Door, Elevator Door, Monitor Point, Control Point and Sensors). In order to get instant access to the right video feed at the right time, Genea needs to know which cameras are monitoring which devices.

  • Select the Location, Device Type (Door, Elevator Door, Monitor Point, Control Point and Sensors) and Device. You can map the camera to multiple locations and multiple devices if needed.

  • You can add multiple locations and in each location you can add multiple devices.

  • Click on 'Save'. Once saved, the main table will display the number of devices associated with the camera and their respective locations.

Setting Up Camera Wall

The Camera Wall provides a centralized interface to monitor multiple camera feeds simultaneously ideal for live situational awareness.

To set up your personalized Camera Wall:

  1. Navigate to Control Center -> Camera Wall

  2. Select the cameras you wish to display from the dropdown list. This is the camera name that you saw while syncing the camera in the above integration setup.

  3. Drag and arrange them in your preferred layout

  4. Save your custom view

Each admin user can create their own layout, allowing for role based monitoring.

Viewing Audit Logs with Linked Video

When your Verkada cameras are mapped to access points (like Doors, Elevator Doors, Monitor Points, etc.), you’ll be able to view relevant video footage directly from your audit logs. This gives your team critical visual context during security reviews, incident investigations, and compliance checks without needing to leave the Genea dashboard.

Steps to View Linked Camera Footage:

  1. Navigate to Activities → Event Log

  2. Apply any relevant filters, such as time range, door, or event type.

  3. Click the link in the camera column to launch live or playback view, depending on the event time.

  4. Use player controls to review footage for incident verification or further action.

Troubleshooting

Installation Fails

  • Verify API Key is correct

  • Confirm API Key is not expired

  • Ensure Organization ID matches Verkada org

  • Confirm Region is correct

  • Ensure API Key has required permissions

Cameras Not Syncing

If no cameras appear after clicking Sync Cameras:

  • Confirm API Key includes Camera Read Access

  • Confirm API Key is not expired

  • Confirm Organization ID and Region are correct

  • Ensure cameras exist and are online in Verkada Portal

Live Video Works but Playback Fails

This usually means:

  • API Key has live streaming access only

  • Playback permissions are missing

  • Camera retention period has expired

Solution:

  • Regenerate API Key with correct read permissions - "Streaming - Live/Historical"

  • Confirm footage exists in Verkada for that time range

No Video Appearing

  • Confirm camera is online in Verkada

  • Confirm camera is mapped to a Genea device

  • Confirm API Key is active

  • Try refreshing the page

“Unauthorized” or Token Errors

  • API Key may be expired

  • API Key permissions may be insufficient

  • Region may be incorrect

Re-enter credentials and reinstall integration if necessary.

Camera Offline

If camera status shows Offline:

  • Confirm camera is online in Verkada Command

  • Verify network connectivity on camera side

  • Once camera reconnects, refresh Genea

NOTE:
If your firewall blocks the outgoing events, then you may need to configure rules to add the below IP address to the whitelist:

IP Addresses for Genea's Verkada server calls for production: 34.198.246.166
