How does the badge printer work?
The badge printer works with the iPad to provide instant, automatically printed visitor badges. When a visitor checks in through the iPad, the visit details are sent directly to the printer over an internet connection (the printer and the iPad should be able to communicate with each other) which “receives” the signal from the iPad, and the badge will print instantaneously.

Currently, Genea supports the following printer model numbers with Visitor Management System:
Brother QL-820NWB

Adding a badge printer
Follow the steps below to map your printer with your Genea Visitor Management system.
1) Click on the 'Visitor Management' > 'Devices' > 'Printers' tab in your admin dashboard, and click the '+ New' button.
2) Name the printer, enter the IP address, select the model number from the drop-down, and select the badge size. Click the 'Add' button.
Brother Printer Details:
You can find the network details for the Brother Badge Printer either in the Menu under the WLAN section or by navigating to Information -> All Logs -> Print Command.
Ensure the printer is configured to Infrastructure Mode with the WLAN status set to Active. Retrieve the IP address from these details and provide it to the Genea Web app during the printer configuration.
Additionally, check the physical roll inserted in the Brother printer—it should be 62mm in width. Also, ensure that the 'Media Type' in the Brother Printer Web App is presenting the 62mm roll.
3) Once the printer is added, it will appear in the list. Now, proceed with the steps below to link the printer to a specific iPad.
Linking the printer to the iPad
1) To link the printer to an iPad, click on Visitor Management > Devices > iPads from your admin dashboard. Learn about How to Sync an iPad With Genea Visitor Management.
2) Click on Actions > Edit for the iPad with which you want to link the specific printer. Linking the iPad to the printer ensures print commands are received to the specific printer from the linked iPad.
3) Select the desired printer from the list and click "Save".
In cases where the printer is added after pairing the iPad app, it's necessary to grant "Local Network" permission. To do this, go to the iPad's Settings -> Visitor Management -> Local Network.
If you're using an iPad with iOS 17, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, and toggle the switch next to the apps you want to grant access to your local network.
This will allow the app to search for the printer and send the necessary commands to print the badge. It's also recommended to relaunch the app on the iPad after granting the permission.
Once the printer is properly configured and the required permissions are granted, the printer's status will change from an amber-colored dot to a green-colored dot. This indicates that the printer is "in use" and successfully connected to the iPad app
Additionally, it's important to verify in the dashboard app that the "Automatic Badge Printing" function is enabled for the sign-in flow the visitors are using. This is necessary for the iPad app to print badges for visitors. If this setting is disabled, the iPad app will not print badges for visitors using that specific visitor type during registration.
