About Genea's Submeter Billing Mobile App

Genea's Submeter Billing Mobile App is a companion for your physical meters that lets you manage meter reading cycles in a more efficient and easier way. Whether you're an administrator of a building or tenant, you can use the Genea mobile app to automate meter readings and generate bills based on the multipliers and complex formulas of your building management system, thus eliminating a manual reading that many a time is subjected to human errors.

Signing in to Genea Submeter Billing Mobile App

Once you have downloaded the app to your device, you will need to log in with your Genea Platform credentials. If you are not sure what your credentials are, please reach out to us via live chat at any time.

What do I see on the home screen of my mobile app?

With Genea, you can gain valuable insight into your building's meter readings by referring to your app's home screen. Let's see each section of the home screen in detail.

1. Building's Meter Summary

The top row of the home screen displays your building name.

The section below the building name displays the summary of the meters that are due to be read, readings that are pending to be uploaded to the central server, and meters that are yet to be commissioned.

2. Ready to upload: If you have any pending meter readings to be uploaded to the central server, you will see "Ready To Upload" section on your home screen with a list of readings that is yet to be uploaded.

Readings can be uploaded in any of the following ways:

  • You can manually upload the readings by clicking on the "Upload" button in the section.
  • The system can sync the readings automatically. Genea's automatic upload service currently operates on a cyclic basis. The service runs typically every 5 minutes.

"Ready to upload" section:

Meter Id: Identification number of the meter.

Reading Date: Date on which meter reading is been recorded.

Reading: Meter readings that indicate how much energy resources you have used.

Photo: Link of the meter reading photo that is taken while recording the reading.

3. Due to read: Based on the due date settings, you can see the list of meters under "Due to Read", for which the monthly readings are due.

Due: Due date for reading the specific meter.

Floor and Description: Floor number and description added for the meter in the web app.

Asset ID aka Meter ID: Identification number of the meter.

How do I read meters?

  • Click on the meter ID from the list for which you want to record a reading.
  • From the meter detail page, click on "Read meter now".
  • Take a photo of the meter reading as a source of validation and proceed.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Images captured via your Genea mobile app are temporarily stored in the device's local storage. Once the readings are uploaded to the server, the app makes sure to remove the images from the storage. It doesn't require deleting the images manually.

If you delete the meter images from your local storage before they are uploaded to the server, then the app will throw an error while uploading and the process will fail. So, it is highly recommended not to delete the images manually. If you see any meter images in your device storage, that means that those images and readings taken corresponding to the images are yet to be uploaded to the server.

  • Now enter the reading manually and click on "Save and Continue".

Once you save the reading, the record will be updated for the specific meter ID.

4. Ready to commission: When the new meters are added to your building web portal, they list under the "Ready to commission" section in your mobile apps and it requires to commission the meters by sticking the system generated QR codes on the meters and scanning the QR from the stickers.

SN: Serial number of the physical meter.

Floor and Description: Floor number and description added for the meter in the web app.
Location: Location details of the meter.

How does QR code work?

A QR code is a machine-scannable image that can instantly be read using your smartphone camera. For every new meter installed and added to Genea, a unique QR code is generated for each unit that is stick on the meter and acts as an identity of the specific meter. Every QR code consists of a number of black squares and dots which represent its unique ID. The very first time, when your Smartphone scans this code for commissioning a fresh meter to Genea, the QR code gets mapped with the meter serial number, and henceforth the meter is identified with its QR code in the Genea application. When readings are recorded for a specific meter, they are sent to the server along with the QR code number, thus ensuring the security of the data.

To commission a meter:

  • Click on the serial number from the list which you want to commission.
  • From the meter detail page, click on "Commission meter now".
  • Scan the QR sticker on the meter and proceed.

Once the commissioning is done, the meter entry will move from "Ready to commission" to "Due to read".
