How to configure Scramble QR Code for Visitor Badge

Scramble QR Code credentials help Administrator to secure the Static Visitor badge to Dynamic QR Code credentials which keep updating at certain intervals of time, making it difficult to store or share for proxy visits on behalf of original visitors. Genea application allows to Configure the Scramble QR Code credentials for visitor management which run and works with your existing QR Code readers.

How to configure the Scramble QR Code Badge for Visitors?

1. Settings up the Credential Type

Option 1: Setting up or Updating the Credential of Visitor at Location Level

In case Location Administrator want to update the credentials for all Visitor types, a newly provisioned functionality at the Location level can help here. Navigate to Visitor Management Settings tab -> "Credential Access for Visitors". Change the Credential Type to "Scramble QR Code" and click "Save".

In case of scramble QR code, App is using QR code format for actual card creation and So, Customers must have QR code format created. Genea Support team can help you enable the QR Code Card Format before you select the Scramble QR Code or in fact any Credentials as credential type.

It will ask for the confirmation, and upon clicking "Save" it will change the credential type to all Visitor Types across the location.

This configuration sets the preference of Credential Type across the Visitor Types available at the Location. However, as per the need, Administrator can update the Credentials at the Visitor Type level the way it is required, except Update Interval for Scramble QR code settings.

It will automatically populate the update interval for QR Code in Scramble QR Code credentials and will set it to default 30 Seconds, which can be updated as per the need from the pre-configured list of intervals. It will revise the Update Interval wherever Scramble QR Code is set as a credential type at Visitor Type level.

Option 2: Individually at the Visitor Type level

In case, Administrator wants to alter the Credential Type at the specific Visitor Type level, App has provision to configure the Scramble QR Code credentials. Anyone with the Visitor Management Configuration - Full Access rights can perform this operation.

Navigate to Visitor Type -> Settings -> Credential Access for Visitors. Click on the Edit button and select "Scramble QR Code" as a credentials.

It will automatically populate the update interval for QR Code and will set it to default 30 Seconds, which is not changeable at the Visitor Type level. However, can be updated from Visitor Management -> Settings level.

It is important to know that, if the Visitor types of locations are using different credentials such as Static QR Code and Dynamic or Scramble QR codes for their visitors, an installed QR Code reader is capable of identifying both the variants of credentials without a need of an extra Reader. It can serve both credentials together.

2. Scramble QR Code Badge for Visitors

Unlike Static QR Code or Barcode Visitor badge, Scramble QR Code credentials are supported with the Web App which can run on the Visitors Mobile devices. so, For the Visitors where Scramble QR Code is selected as a credential type, Visitor Badge will be fixed and will not have the provision to access the badge editors.

User can see the sample badge shown in below image or available on the Visitor Type configured with Scramble QR code, which will be replaced with actual values on the reception of it.

3. Access Control QR Code Door Configuration

If you have already added the QR Code Door to Mercury Controller, Open the Door configuration page through clicking on the Door list.

Navigate to "Scramble QR Code Credential" section and toggle the switch. To fulfill the necessary operations, System will need One Logical ACR and Administer can grant the permission.

Once User clicks "Enable", Scramble QR Code credential identification and authorization of Visitors through the secured scrambling QR Codes will be enabled. User can see the Status - 'Enabled' and Logical QR Code reader hyperlinked within that section.

Please ensure that the QR code reader is set to 'Decimal' mode to accurately scan and process the Scramble QR codes.

User will also find the Logical Door created right below the Regular Door. It will be always in Read Only mode and will be marked as Resource wherever it performs the Access Control operations pertaining to Visitors Access Control.

After enabling the Scramble QR Code mode, make sure to add the newly created Logical AC QR Reader to Access Group list & scheduling the way Regular AC QR Reader is added to have un-interrupted Access policies for your visitors.

Visitor Invitations with Scramble QR Code credentials

Considering the nature of Scramble QR Codes, it requires the live environment to keep updating the QR codes at defined intervals of time. So, Scramble QR Code credentials are compatible with Web browsers only on the Mobile devices of Visitors.

Unlike the static QR Code or Barcode badges, Visitors will receive the unique Web URL as their Visit Credentials which they can open to their Mobile devices during the visit hours and can scan the provided QR code within the app to QR Code reader to get the access.

Additionally, certain Print or Share commands of regular visitor badges will no longer available where the Visitor Type of Invitations are configured with the Scramble QR Code and it will be reflected across the different mediums of Visitor Check-in methods i.e., Web App or iPad Kiosk or Self Check-in method.

Visits with the Scramble QR Code visits, instead of "Print" button, it will be "View Credentials" button which can help Visitors to Scan the Credentials to get the Credential URL to their Mobile device to use it further for Access Control operations.
